Hunting Clearance Challenge At Target

Target Rondell
Target.com Whoops page picture
Last weekend, when I was on my hunt for a great diaper deal at Target, I did a quick walk through checking out the end caps.  In the past, I've found some great Clearance items.  On this trip, I noticed they were kind of bare.  Even though I was disappointed, I was also relived because I actually left the store with only what I intended to buy.  The husband would be proud!

Target has never been a clearance hunting challenge before, so I was very surprised and thought maybe they had a good weekend.  However, based on an article I read on Daily Finance, "Target CFO: We're Sitting Out the Low-Price Wars This Holiday Season", Target will be a clearance hunting challenge this holiday season.

Celebrity Clearance Tuesday: Sofia Vergara

One thing I love about the Fall is my favorite TV shows start their new episodes.  One of my favorite shows is "Modern Family".  "Modern Family" is a show that my family and I enjoy together.  I know, some things may be inappropriate for kids...but at times I can be inappropriate so at least I seem modern to them.  With 14 Primetime Emmy Nominations this year, I think a lot of families are watching this show.

I am so surprised how Sofia Vergara, who plays the sexy younger Cuban Step-Mother, has become such a break out star from the show.  It seems like every other commercial is hers from CoverGirl, Diet Pepsi and her Sofia by Sofia Vergara line exclusively with KMart

Now, I'm personally not the right size to wear her clothes...or have the boobies.  Regardless, I took a look at her collection with Kmart because I like the clothes from the commercials.  Kmart currently had about 34 clothing items 50% off or more.  Some shirts and skirts were $5.99, because they only had size M or XS available.  If I was a size M or XS, I would have the heart flutters!

However, Sofia offers a great home collection so you can bring some of her sexy glamour into your home.  I really like her Champagne Dream Bed and Beth collection:

Fall Decor Redo

From the weather changing this week to all the pumpkins sitting in front of the supermarket, ready or not Fall starts September 22!  I love seeing the change in the leaves from green to orange/red/brown.  Next weekend my son is having a sleepover for his birthday...my baby is turning 10, so I took this weekend to try to do a little fall decor to set the mood.

Since, I am really trying to tighten up on the budget, I resisted the urge to buy fall items at the supermarket this weekend and instead went shopping in the garage and my craft storage closet.  Below is a picture of all the items I pulled out and laid on the dining room table:

Old wreath, vine leaf and floral arrangement

Old floral arrangement

So, my goal became a Fall decor redo with all the stuff above and from what I could gather from around the house.  Some of these things I have had for over 3 years, that sometimes just stayed in the closet instead of making a yearly appearance.  I have an area in the foyer where I like to decorate with the change of season.  I think it creates a warm feeling when company enters my home, also the twins tend to ignore this area!

The first thing I did was take the burgundy leaf wreath apart.  I loved the bare look of the twine, but played around with the vine of the orange leaves to see if I could re wrap it.  Since the orange leaves was so spread apart, I didn't like it, so I went across and just hooked the vine in and out of the twine.  Instead of using hot glue, so I could reuse it for Halloween, I just stuck the ends into the grove of the twine.  I then used the brown twisty that was holding the burgundy leaf vine on to make a hook to hang it.

Then I took apart the old bouquet and tore the pick apart and stuck them into the reef and reused the ribbon to make a bow.

I finagled a piece of ribbon behind the mirror to come around to hang the reef:

I layed a table runner I had for years across the top of my foyer table.  Then I found an old wedding broom that I never decorated and added some of the fall floral picks into it.  I thought about adding some ribbon to it, but I didn't want it to compete with the wreath.  I happen to have 4 bibles that have a fall color.  The Children's bible was given to me by my Great Grandmother when I was a toddler and two of the Bibles belonged to my departed Mother-inlaw.  Then I grabbed some items I had in the kitchen and added another candle that I used at my Cousin's wedding 6 years ago:

I used the rest of the orange leaf vine to wrap around the dining room chandelier, since this is the first room you see when you come into the house.

I used a wicker top, I found at Goodwill a few months ago for $2.00, to create a centerpiece.  I brought it to do something else with, but since it was made of natural material I thought it would be great to sit the rest of the leaves in with a vase, candle siting in gold sand and some decorative rocks.  I had the gold sand from a Party Lite candle vase that broke..and I could not bring myself to vacuum up all the sand...so I picked up as much as I could.  The vase is one of many I brought for my brother's wedding a few years ago...that was canceled.

The results of my fall redo:

I think I will add a small pumpkin later in the season

Let me know what you think?  Do you enjoy decorating for the fall?  Do you reuse things year to year or do you like to buy atleast one thing new?

Celebrity Clearance Tuesday - Tracy Reese dressing the First Lady

Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, I know you were in awe over The First Lady Michelle Obama dress during the 2012 DNC Convention.  I know I had to focus myself on what she was saying instead of the outfit; but gold, pink and grey may be my new favorite color combination.

The first thing I did in the morning was find out who designed the dress, and how to recreate the same look.  I found out the designer is Tracy Reese, an American designer from Detroit.  I'm not surprised that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Show website notes in her designer biography:

Reese’s eye for detail and extensive knowledge of color, art-inspired prints, fabric and form continue to be evident each season as she consistently reveals timeless, wearable looks that evoke sophistication and elegance.
You can see from the dress she designed for Michelle Obama, that is exactly what she did.  I'm also not surprised that some of my favorite celebrities have worn her clothes; Katy Perry, Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Tina Fey.  I'm sure during Mercedes-Benz Fashion week, everyone was trying to get into see Tracy Reese Spring 2013 Collection.   I myself went on a hunt to see if I could find any of her clothing line Plenty in clearance at Nieman Marcus or Nordstrom.

I was successful in finding some great deals on Tracy Reese website, with items as low as 60% off w/ free ground shipping.  Lucky for my daughter she is small enough to wear the clothes..not that I would buy it for her..

Surviving Potty Training

So, the twins are getting bigger so I have to move up to size 5 diapers.  Even though, I'm glad they are getting bigger....the diapers are more expensive.  I know at 2 1/2 years old they should be half way to potty training.

I was doing good having the two potties out and having them sit on it, but they were more interested in using the toilet........

Wordless Wednesday: Dora's boyfriend

While on vacation in the Smoky Mountains, we ran into my son's girlfriend:

Celebrity Clearance Tuesday - Queen Latifah

Picture from Queen Latifah website:  Diva persona
I've never shopped on HSN before, but because of Queen Latifah I may have to start.  Queen Latifah has a exclusive line with HSN,  based on her own style.  I love Queen Latifah and I always take note on what she wears because we have the same body type.  Like Laila Ali, they have a stylist, so how can i go wrong.  When I first moved to SC, I would be out shopping and people would say, "you look like Queen Latifah".  I guess she would be my celebrity twin.

I missed a great clearance item that would of been great to wear toward the end of fall.

Queen Collection Woven Scarf with Faux Fur Collar

This faux fur woven scarf was only $5.00!  I missed it.  Even with paying $5.20 Shipping and Handling it's worth it.  I had no idea HSN had clearance deals like this so I have to keep hunting them.

I also noticed this jacket on clearance 83% off:
Queen Collection Brushed Canvas and Sateen Safari Coat

This colorblock safari jacket is only $19.95, and if I wore coats, I would have to buy it.  For some reason, after I had my son I don't get as cold and I really don't like wearing coats.  I find them uncomfortable when driving.

Do you shop at HSN?  Do they have a lot of good items on clearance all the time?

Decorative Clearance at Harris Teeter

I didn't plan on going to the grocery store this week, so my budget could recover from our vacation to the Smoky Mountains.  I didn't even check out Southern Savers for this week coupon match ups, so I would not be tempted to shop.

Of course Tuesday night my Mom calls to ask me a question about her Harris Teeter receipt and tells me the e-vic special this week was 20-pack of Lays for $3.97!  My son has been begging for me to buy these for school, even at Walmart they are around $6.50 and to top it off she had a $10 off $40 coupon for Harris Teeter that expired THAT day.

So, I had no choice but to match up some coupons at Southern Savers to see what else I was missing.  Needless to say, I found a few good deals such as 3 Wisk detergents for $1.99 each,.... which is my max to pay for laundry detergent (used (3) $2/1 from 8/12 RP) and I was out of Truvia so I stocked up buying 3 for $1.99 (used (3) $1/1 from 6/17 RP) and to my surprise received $4.00 back for buying them so, that's like getting all three for $1.97!  YEAH!

Anyway, my heart fluttering find was Hefty Decorative 4.5 Gallon wastebasket on CLEARANCE for $2.64 regularly $7.99!  They look great in my Master bathroom and help with keeping me under budget with the redo of that room.

      So, I spent $90.00 saving $104.04 for a 54% savings...not bad for a week I wasn't suppose to shop!

Don't you love unexpected finds when shopping?  Have you had any this week?

Fashion Friday: Pairing my kids prints

The trend style of mixing your prints is hot right now, but I'm hesitant to wear it myself!  When I was a kid dressing myself, I remember my Dad saying, "You can't mix plaid with stripes or prints!"  Not that he was a style expert, just very opinionated, to say the least.  I wish he was alive to see fashion now, so I could tell him I would of been a trend setter!  So to gain confidence in wearing this trend and to make sure I don't look like a Wino HouseWife (mmm, I like that name...need to make sure no one has it...LOL) I need to learn how to do this properly so I can wear it with confidence.

Recently, I read a post from Trend HUNGRY who posted a "Pairing Your Prints - A Beginners Guide" that listed three options to start with Lace and Spots, Floral and Leather, and Pale Knits and Brights.  The easiest for me to try would be the Floral and Leather....and I said I didn't want to look like a Wino Housewife ...because we all know wine and leather looks good together.  I have to admit though, I'm still a little hesitant..but Trend HUNGRY will have other lessons so I will keep reading to build my confidence.

However, I love it on my girls.  Their closets are a little brighter and colorful than mine.  My two year old girl has a lot of Garanimals pieces from Walmart.  I think the clothing line is made so you can easily mix and match the pieces, which is great on my budget.  I always have a great hunt finding clothes on clearance at my local Walmart for $2.50 and lucky days $1.00.    I put this last clearance find together trying to mix patterns:

Garanimals Pattern Mixing Outfit

Total outfit $10!  Even the Garanimals sneakers I found a few weeks later in the clearance bin for $5!  I think she was dressed nice and bright for our trip to the Library and Park.

I think with the similar colors it works, so if I can find a more "toned down" version in my closet I may be willing to give it a try.   I think I will create a new Follow Me on Pinterest Board to build confidence.  Are you liking this new trend?  Have you been able to pull it off without looking like a Wino Housewife?

Laila Ali the new Champ for Kohls: Celebrity Clearance Tuesday

Laila Ali
I'm really starting to like the clearance section at Kohls and now they have pushed me over the top with a new commercial with Laila Ali...click below to see to commercial.

I just love the line she says, "I box to win; I shop to win."  Now, the only boxing I do is on Wii with my Gold's Gym Dance Workout, but I do shop to win!  For some reason, the first time I saw Laila Ali on TV I felt a connection with her.  I know I saw her fight back in the day and was a fan then, but Dancing with the Stars sealed the deal for me.

I think the biggest thing is Laila Ali and Ms. Cover Girl Queen Latifah are the people I look to for style because we share the same body type.  Laila Ali of course is what people would consider the fit of the two, but what my Dad called "thick bone women", we share in common.  Unfortantely, Queen Latifah even at her healthiest weight, people would consider her Plus Size.  (Whom, will be my next Celebrity Clearance Tuesday because she has a clothing line with QVC)  Laila Ali represents what my body would look like; if I was more fit and toned, so she motivates me to workout.  As I once heard on a style show, you should find a celebrity who has your body type and watch how they dress...they of course have the knowledgeable stylist we can't afford, right?

Maybe my connection with Laila Ali was that she is a Sagittarius like me...however, it is no coincidence that I named my daughter Layla...thinking of her.  Now, we have more in common; being Married and a Mother.  I hope she furthers her relationship with Kohls and comes out with her own line of clothes.  That would be great, I would be tempted to pay full price!  She currently has her own line of hair styling tools :

Picture from website Lailaali.com
and she announced on her Facebook account to look out soon for her own line of seasonings to create healthy meals.  So, I have to keep an eye out at the grocery store for that later this year.

Do you have a celebrity you keep an eye on for style?
