From the weather changing this week to all the pumpkins sitting in front of the supermarket, ready or not Fall starts September 22! I love seeing the change in the leaves from green to orange/red/brown. Next weekend my son is having a sleepover for his birthday...my baby is turning 10, so I took this weekend to try to do a little fall decor to set the mood.
Since, I am really trying to tighten up on the budget, I resisted the urge to buy fall items at the supermarket this weekend and instead went shopping in the garage and my craft storage closet. Below is a picture of all the items I pulled out and laid on the dining room table:

So, my goal became a Fall decor redo with all the stuff above and from what I could gather from around the house. Some of these things I have had for over 3 years, that sometimes just stayed in the closet instead of making a yearly appearance. I have an area in the foyer where I like to decorate with the change of season. I think it creates a warm feeling when company enters my home, also the twins tend to ignore this area!
The first thing I did was take the burgundy leaf wreath apart. I loved the bare look of the twine, but played around with the vine of the orange leaves to see if I could re wrap it. Since the orange leaves was so spread apart, I didn't like it, so I went across and just hooked the vine in and out of the twine. Instead of using hot glue, so I could reuse it for Halloween, I just stuck the ends into the grove of the twine. I then used the brown twisty that was holding the burgundy leaf vine on to make a hook to hang it.
Then I took apart the old bouquet and tore the pick apart and stuck them into the reef and reused the ribbon to make a bow.
I finagled a piece of ribbon behind the mirror to come around to hang the reef:
I layed a table runner I had for years across the top of my foyer table. Then I found an old wedding broom that I never decorated and added some of the fall floral picks into it. I thought about adding some ribbon to it, but I didn't want it to compete with the wreath. I happen to have 4 bibles that have a fall color. The Children's bible was given to me by my Great Grandmother when I was a toddler and two of the Bibles belonged to my departed Mother-inlaw. Then I grabbed some items I had in the kitchen and added another candle that I used at my Cousin's wedding 6 years ago:
I used the rest of the orange leaf vine to wrap around the dining room chandelier, since this is the first room you see when you come into the house.
I used a wicker top, I found at Goodwill a few months ago for $2.00, to create a centerpiece. I brought it to do something else with, but since it was made of natural material I thought it would be great to sit the rest of the leaves in with a vase, candle siting in gold sand and some decorative rocks. I had the gold sand from a Party Lite candle vase that broke..and I could not bring myself to vacuum up all the sand...so I picked up as much as I could. The vase is one of many I brought for my brother's wedding a few years ago...that was canceled.
The results of my fall redo:
I think I will add a small pumpkin later in the season
Let me know what you think? Do you enjoy decorating for the fall? Do you reuse things year to year or do you like to buy atleast one thing new?
